Diesel Universal

Laboratory

Equipment, measurements and process.

A diesel injection laboratory works with data: the part is measured before it is repaired and again when finished, using electronic equipment and experienced technicians.

Why a test bench

Measuring instead of guessing.

The symptoms of a diesel engine with injection problems (loss of power, smoke, high consumption, hard starting) resemble each other and can have very different causes. A test bench makes it possible to tell those causes apart, because it reproduces the real working conditions of the part outside the engine and measures its behavior with calibrated instruments.

That way it is possible to know whether a pump delivers the volume it should, whether an injector sprays with the correct shape or whether a turbo is balanced, and to compare the result with the manufacturer's specification before and after the repair.

Measurements

What is measured on each part.

Diesel injection pumps

  • Delivery volume per element or cylinder
  • Supply or transfer pressure
  • Injection timing
  • Internal sealing and pressure
  • Governor cut-off by speed
  • Maximum pressure and regulation (Common Rail high pressure)

Diesel injectors

  • Delivery at several load points
  • Return flow (internal leakage)
  • Opening pressure (mechanical)
  • Spray pattern and angle
  • Electrical response of the solenoid
  • Nozzle sealing

Turbochargers

  • Axial and radial shaft play
  • Dynamic balance of the rotating assembly
  • Vane travel (variable geometry)
  • Actuator response
  • Condition of wheels and housings

When the work is finished a technical report with the test results is delivered, so the condition of the part on arrival and on departure is on record.

Process

How the work is done.

1

Reception and evaluation

The vehicle or part is received and an initial evaluation defines the work plan.

2

Bench diagnosis

Measurements are taken with electronic test benches and a scanner. Decisions are made with data.

3

Repair and calibration

Technicians repair, calibrate or replace what is needed using quality parts.

4

Quality control and delivery

The result is verified on the bench and delivered with a technical report and the corresponding warranty.
